Q. Are there different types/degrees of snoring?
A. Yes. There is light snoring, and there is heavy snoring.
- Light or mild snoring is often related to obesity which translates to thickish necks and therefore an increase in fatty
deposits lining the airways, thus restricting airflow.
Light snoring is also age related due to the stretching of the skin lining the airway, and the soft palate, over time,
and this 'floppy' skin will often get in the way of air and vibrate ... thus the annoying snoring sound.
- Heavy snoring on the other hand can be neurologically related which sees the brain not getting enough oxygen due to a
number of reasons, some genetic, and it gets a little 'lazy' in sending signals to command the lungs into action. The brain
jolts the lungs into action when it senses a problem and that's when the sleeper jerks and snorts. This is usually a sleep
apnea - related issue, and anyone who suspects that they suffer from such a condition should immediately see their medical practitioner.
This is a very serious condition and should not be underestimated in respect to its gravity!
Q. Can your pillows help my snoring?
A. For legal reasons we (and no other producer for that matter) can ever make claims that any
product will alleviate snoring! What we can say though is that it is a medical fact that if your spine is naturally aligned
during sleep then your windpipe will be better placed for easier breathing. In other words it won’t be as constricted as if
you were poorly aligned.
This alignment applies to side sleeping and back sleeping only, and we would only claim that it "may be beneficial in minimising
light snoring". This company makes no specific claims apart from "may help", and for those who suffer from heavy snoring
seek a doctor's advice immediately, or advise your partner to!
And for tummy sleepers? None of our contoured pillows cater to that sleeping position. We recommend no pillow, or a very low
pillow at best, for tummy sleepers.
Q. Why is a contoured pillow better than a conventional pillow for snorers?
A. Contoured pillows are designed to encourage the natural alignment of the spine, and this will
allow your windpipe to remain more open and this may be helpful in minimising light snoring.
A conventional pillow is subject to changing its shape during the night – the 'bunching effect' – and this places your spinal
alignment at the mercy of this ever-changing pillow. You can, quite simply, finish up with your chin tucked into your throat ...
not good for airflow!
Q. Why are your contoured pillows the world’s best for minimising light snoring?
A. We can’t say this or that re snoring, but what we can say is that we have different densities and
sizes to suit all. Please peruse the various version categories on this web site to find your optimum comfort and size.
There will be a version for you!
Q. Have you any other hints for reducing or eliminating snoring?
A. You could also look at our company’s mattress toppers, ie the Memory Mattress Topper or the Body Huggar
eggfoam overlay.
These products help align the spine during sleep. In other words they 'give' where your body needs it most … the shoulder area,
the hips and buttocks, and the knees and ankles. In other words less pressure on the body for a more relaxed night’s sleep. Better posture, which means your spine is better aligned …. and that should translate to clearer airways.
Q. I was looking to buy a pillow suitable for a Snoring problem
A.
A contoured pillow should help because it is designed to balance the neck and head evenly, and help align the spine. It should prevent 'bunching' of the neck and thus allow greater air supply through your windpipe. Perhaps you should be looking at the CompleteSleeprrr in Memory foam in either the soft Original Version or the firmer Plus Version. They are adjustable to suit the user.
But no-one can claim to stop snoring, or change this or change that. If you have a serious snoring issue please go see your doctor. It may be sleep apnea related.
