Tumeric, a spice commonly used in curries, may help treat arthritis, according to a report from the US National Institute for Health.
Using an experimental compound similar to over-the-counter tumeric dietary supplements, researchers found that the spice blocked a protein that leads to inflammation, prevented acute and chronic arthritis, and prevented an increase in the cells that break down bone in joints.
The study appeared in the American College of Rheumatology journal, Arthritis and Rheumatism.
